Banana Bread Chocolate Chip Scones

February 28, 2012 § 1 Comment

When I was at Scripps College for my undergrad, the campus coffeehouse sold the most amazing cookies.  The smell of these banana bread chocolate chip scones that I made today reminded me of them.  I used this recipe but substituted walnuts for chocolate chips.  I baked the scones for about 30 minutes, leaving the interior soft and biscuit-like.   Also, I only lightly glazed the scones, since I’ve already added chocolate chips to the mix.

Spring Forward

As Spring is upon us, I look forward to transitioning my closet from Winter coats and sweaters to bright colored blouses and light scarfs.  This Spring I’m all about pops of color, color-blocking, bright orange and yellow, and prints.  I also love stripes, which is such a stable for Spring time.

Crunchy French Toast

The other day I had brunch at Blu Jam Cafe in Melrose.  The restaurant is known for its Crunchy French Toast, which is essentially French toast crusted with corn flakes. This is all served with fruits and vanilla bean sauce on the side, which is a nice departure from maple syrup.

I thought the idea of having corn flakes added to your French toast was innovative and decided to give it a try myself for nights where breakfast sounds like a better option than dinner.

All you’ll need: corn flakes, eggs to make egg wash, toast, and butter.

Grease pan with butter.  Then dip toast into egg wash.  Sprinkle corn flakes on both sides of toast.  Pan fry toast for 3-5 minutes.

Triple Collar and Color Blocking

Last weekend I went to Nordstrom in search of a pair of black skinny jeans.  But it was this top from Remain that caught my eye.  I love a good pop of color and color blocking.  The triple collar also made this top unique.  I would love to play up the pink by accessorizing with some pink bangles, pink clutch, while keeping the pants and shoes neutral.
